Another busy week in year 6

This week we have had a new arrival in the school: the ducks. Can anyone write down any facts about the ducks?(remember that the ducks are Khaki Campbell).

Also we have just finished our Greek myth, The Odyssey; who can remember what has happened in it?

Another thing we have been doing this week is cooking: we baked a pear and almond flapjack tart and  most of us really enjoyed it!

Enrichment day was an extremely fun time, can anybody tell us  fact a bout their topic?

Finally we have all had amazing  CLIC scores, does anybody want to share their scores? 🙂 🙂

Our learn its for next week will be:

7 x 8 = 56

8 x 8 = 64

9 x 8 = 72

Harvest Challenge

Now that we have collected the fruit harvest, Y6 will be baking on Tuesday. We are going to make Pear and Almond Flapjack Tart. I was wondering whether anybody might be able to work out the cost of making one tart.

There are two ways of doing this:

You could find all of the ingredients on a shopping website such as Tesco or Asda and add the cost of each ingredient. Doing it this  way will cost more as you will have some ingredients left over.

If you really wanted to impress, you could look at the size of each packet and work out how much it would cost for the exact quantity. For example, if a 1kg bag of flour costs £1.80 but we only need 250g then the actual cost of the flour is £1.80 divided by 4 = 45p.

Here are the ingredients for one tart:

  • 500g shortcrust pastry block
  • 5 pears
  • 125g golden caster sugar
  • 25g flaked almonds
  • 125g porridge oats
  • 50g plain flour
  • 50g ground almonds
  • 125g butter
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup

What a busy day! We’ve been laser shooting, climbing up the leap of faith and building rafts! Everyone got to the top of leap of faith and we made a raft that floated. All having showers and getting ready for tea! We’ve even a had a visit from a friendly face (Mr Abbott!)

A day to remember

wow what a busy day of exciting activities. We’ve had drum jam this morning, followed by field games and circus skills. Then, after lunch we’ve been problem solving and completing the nightline challenge! Not even the weather has dampened our moods! We’ve just got back to our dorms after a quizzical evening, answering questions and naming music and tasting food! What will tomorrow bring?

Blowing out the cobwebs

  • Morning from the campers! We’ve all had breakfast and are enjoying our first very noisy activity – drum jam! We’re creating songs to perform in front of the Kingswoods got talent judges in the final! Weve had some real pop stars, they sound like pop stars, look like pop stars and are pop stars! Feild games and circus skills next!
