This afternoon, whilst we were having a wow moment pressing apples with Mr Abbott, he set us a challenge. Mr Abbott told us that when rhubarb grows you can actually hear it! Can you remember what he said could be used to hear it growing? Share your rhubarb research here as well as any suggestions for what we could make should we ever have a rhubarb week…
There were 7 pies in the class. Each pie was cut into 15 pieces. How many pieces were there all together?
There were 29 kids in the class plus the teacher. They got one slice each ,would there be any pieces left? If there was how many would be left and what would you do with them?
What a success! Most of us enjoyed eating our finished Pear & Almond Flapjack Tart and all of us thoroughly enjoyed making it! All of the adults who tasted it were very complimentary as well. Share your thoughts about it here…
Now that we have collected the fruit harvest, Y6 will be baking on Wednesday. We are going to make Pear and Almond Flapjack Tart. I was wondering whether anybody might be able to work out the cost of making one tart.
There are two ways of doing this:
You could find all of the ingredients on a shopping website such as Tesco or Asda and add the cost of each ingredient. Doing it this way will cost more as you will have some ingredients left over.
If you really wanted to impress, you could look at the size of each packet and work out how much it would cost for the exact quantity. For example, if a 1kg bag of flour costs £1.80 but we only need 250g then the actual cost of the flour is £1.80 divided by 4 = 45p.
Here are the ingredients for one tart:
- 500g shortcrust pastry block
- 5 pears
- 125g golden caster sugar
- 25g flaked almonds
- 125g porridge oats
- 50g plain flour
- 50g ground almonds
- 125g butter
- 3 tbsp golden syrup
