Football Fever Strikes

Since I know you’re all getting behind your teams from our World Cup Draw, I thought some of you might want to post a review of any of the games you watch. I know lots of them are on pretty late, but I’m sure many of you will be allowed to stay up to watch the England game on Thursday as there’s no school for you on Friday.

Have a look here for some ideas, then have a go at writing a more detailed review to share your opinions…

  1. Hi Mrs Larkin, my team is Algeria – the underdogs in this game – and we played Belgium at 5 o’clock on Tuesday the 17th of June. In the 25th minute, Jan Vertonghen ( Belgium) conceded a penalty by pulling on Feghouli’s (Algeria) arm. The penalty was taken and Feghouli then casually stroked the ball into the back of the net! GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAllll!!!!!!!! 1:0! After that, Algeria played well defensively and created a couple of chances themselves. However, in the second half, we didn’t play as well. Belgium created many chances but every time, our keeper (Fais) saved us…until the 70th minute. A swerving ball into the box by Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) was all substitute Marouanne Fellaini needed to head a magnificent backwards header into the back of the net. Belgium had scored. 1:1! Algeria did not play well at all after that and were not pressurising; therefore giving Belgium time and space. Things got even worse in the 80th minute. Another fabulous run by Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) down the right wing and a slick pass to Mertens (Belgium) secured another goal as he smashed home a belter past the Algerian keeper Hais. It was 2:1 to Belgium. Nothing got any better after that, until, finally, the full time whistle had blown. Algeria had lost.

    1. Where do I begin? This is a cracking review!! Thank you for taking the time to post such a thoughtful response to this thread: you’ve really set the bar high for everyone else to follow with their reviews. I love the way your voice comes through in your writing; it’s almost as if you are a real, published match reviewer! As well as this, your choice of words are right on the money as they are really informal and chatty and exactly what I’d expect to see in a write of this sort. Just brill!

  2. Last night I was watching the world cup with my dad but I fell a sleep during the middle of it AAAAAHHHHH! But even worse England lost again.

  3. At first, it started off at 0-0 (as always). Uruguay had now upped their game, there was a lot of tension during the match. The opposition kept going and going and the tension was rising and rising until ………………..Uruguay had scored! NNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!Tension, tension so high that Uruguay had managed to score again! Tragedy! England fans as furious as raging tigers messily devouring their hopeless prey was all the eye could see, this made England up their game! Wayne Rooney had just done it for England!GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!But it still meant Uruguay were winning, with a score of 2-1. 90 minutes had flown by. The game had ended. England had lost.DEVASTATING!

  4. Great work Jonathan. Let’s see if anyone can beat that! I will give a Headteacher’s award to anyone who comes close.
