We had great fun looking for books in our local library this week. Julie the librarian told us all about the books we can borrow and read us a story. Can you remember how many books we can borrow?`
We met happy, healthy Harold on the Life Education Bus and had great fun talking about how to stay healthy.
This week also found us eating our snack in our decorated Succah outside and singing our song for the Jewish festival of Sukkot.
Our book next week is ‘The Farm Concert’.
As you can see, this week has been dinosaur week in F.S.U. and our book has been “Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs”.
Next week we celebrate Chinese New Year of the Horse – so Chinese food for snack-time!
We are reading the story of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. This is a lovely book with lots of colour and pattern activities.
Can you make a pattern and tell your teacher about it?
As you know, our topic for the Summer Term is “People who help us in places around us”. This week we had our first visitor to FSU when Nurse Mary Howe came to talk to us about her job and how a nurse helps people. She brought lots of exciting things to show us and the highlight of her visit was when she put a plaster cast on two of our children!
We shall continue our nurse theme next week when our book of the week will be “Ness the Nurse” by Nick Sharratt. This is a funny rhyming book and causes much laughter amongst the children when for example Paul needs a plaster because he hit a wall, and Rose has bashed her nose!
Role play both inside and out will be a hospital and a clinic. Nurse Howe left us some bandages, x-rays and the like for us to use in our play.
It promises to be another busy week in FSU!
Next week is our nursery rhyme week in FSU and we shall be focussing on the traditional rhyme “The big ship sails on the ally ally oh”.
This lends itself to lots of work on pirates and treasure maps and our role play area will become a big ship! We shall be singing nursery rhymes all week, so be ready for your children to come home and want to sing with you!
Next week our new bear story will be the much loved ‘Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?’ written by Bill Martin and illustrated by Eric Carle. The focus of the book is colours and we shall be experimenting with paint to try and mix our own colours. We shall be baking on Tuesday each week and this week we shall begin with bear biscuits.
Next week we will be looking at the book “Things I like” by Anthony Browne. We will be making a snack that we like to eat on Wednesday and talking about things we like to do in FSU. The Life Education Bus is visiting next week and FSU children will be working with Harold the giraffe on activities linked to our topic of “All about me” It promises to be another busy week in FSU!
