The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have another exciting week coming up using the Eric Carle story ‘The  Very Hungry Caterpillar’  to extend our language and light up our imaginations.

What would you like to eat if you were a hungry caterpillar?

We have had great fun learning new words from the story, creating repeating patterns and symmetrical butterflies.

Why not have a go at learning this Caterpillar song

There’s a tiny caterpillar                                            (Tune: She’ll be coming round the mountain)

There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)
There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)
There’s a tiny caterpillar, tiny caterpillar,
There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wiggle, wiggle)

He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)
He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)
He will eat the leaves around, eat the leaves around
He will eat the leaves around him ‘til he’s full (munch, munch)

A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning, cocoon is what he’s spinning,
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)

Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly, be a butterfly,
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)

A special welcome to our new children this term

Disappointed …not for long!

Thank you to everyone who supported the ‘Red Nose’ event in school on Friday.

This is how FSU felt when we were unable to visit Clumber Park this week due to staff illness.

This is how FSU felt when we knew we would go another day!

Next week we will be reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Some of you might know this story. Maybe you could find out what the caterpillar ate on Saturday.

Thinking time…

What is the boy looking at?

Pirate Day!

What a fabulous pirate day we’ve had in FSU today! Dressed as pirates the children have sung pirate songs, listened to a story about pirates who love underpants, walked the plank and even found treasure! Lots of the tots joined us on our pirate adventures and we loved having them. Our snack was a hot dog with a pirate flag in so that it looked like a pirate ship. We had so much fun that the children are already planning what kind of special day they would like next!

                         Ahoy shipmates !!!

We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re going to catch…

Problem solvers

If a bear has 4 paws how many paws would you have altogether with 2 bears?

We have been looking in our garden and seeing what creatures and plants are growing.

Whatever Next !

Our next bear book we will be looking at is Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. This book is about a bear that makes a rocket.

Here are some of the words from the story for you to say, read or write.

We will be working on instructions on how to make a rocket and look forward to trying them out with you on Wednesday afternoon.

What an exciting rocket launch in FSU this afternoon. The children had a wonderful time with their grown ups reading and following the instructions to make a rocket. We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures!

Who can you see in the pictures?
